Team news and analysisChelsea will face Swansea City without John Terry who must serve the final part of his four-match ban. Also suspended is Branislav Ivanovic. Meanwhile, Fernando Torres is available after serving his one-match ban in midweek. The Spaniard was controversially red-carded against Manchester United last Sunday. Swansea City have Michel Vorm, Kyle Bartley and Neil Taylor on the sideline.
The Blues have gone through a lot during the past two weeks. First, they staged a mighty comeback at White Hart Lane against Spurs in the English Premier League. A few days after, Chelsea travelled to Ukraine looking to edge closer to Last 16 qualification in the Champions League. The titleholders however suffered a 2-1 upset.
That same week, the Blues hosted bitter rivals Manchester United in the league. The rivalry between the two clubs turned sourer as the Red Devils benefited from Mark Clattenburg’s controversial officiating. This game saw Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the EPL come to an end.
On Saturday, the reigning FA Cup champions will be looking to build a new winning streak. The momentum in the camp is high following Wednesday’s nail-biting extra-time victory over Manchester United in the English Capital One Cup.
However, their upcoming opponents, Swansea City, are also mentally in shape. Swansea narrowly lost to Manchester City in the English Premier League last weekend as a Carlos Tevez strike made the difference. Against the odds, they bounced back in spectacular fashion against Football League Cup holders Liverpool, beating them 3-1 on Wednesday. And this did not happen anywhere but at the historic Anfield stadium.
