AnalysisAfter Wednesday’s atrocious defeat to Ajax, Manchester City will not dare take Swansea City for granted. Firstly, Manchester City will have to cope with a number of absences. James Milner was red-carded against West Brom and therefore cannot feature this weekend.
Jack Rodwell, Javi Garcia and Maicon are still out of action. Meanwhile, David Silva remains doubtful. The Spaniard is yet to completely shake off a hamstring injury. Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko will all be under pressure to justify their inclusion at Manchester City.
Secondly, tenth-placed Swansea City are fresh from an important 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic. They are keen on remaining in the top half of the Barclays Premier League table as long as they can. The good news for Saturday’s visitors at the Etihad Stadium is that they have no recent fitness problem.
After crumbling under September’s busy agenda, Swansea have been able to mentally and physically recover. They are yet to lose in October. Saturday’s encounter in Manchester will also be their third fixture in three weeks whereas the Citizens have already played over 540 minutes of football this month.
Manchester City are tied on 18 points from a possible 24 like local foes Manchester United. If the Citizens bag their sixth win in the English Premier League on Saturday, they will go three points clear above the Red Devils. They will also cut the gap at the very top of the standings – currently occupied by Chelsea – from four points to a single one.
In fact, victory for Man City will put pressure on Chelsea and Manchester United to beat one another at Stamford Bridge come Sunday.
