Arsenal vs Chelsea Match Preview

FA Cup: Arsenal v Chelsea Preview

The semi-finals of the FA Cup take place this weekend with Arsenal and Chelsea playing first on Saturday. It will be a very significant derby match as both teams are living two different campaigns all together.

Chelsea’s strength and the Hiddink factor

The Blues’ season has completely taking another aspect under new manager Guus Hiddink. The days of Big Phil are over for far too long and now it’s Hiddink’s turn to offer Chelsea a lot of consolation as the season is coming to a close.

Chelsea have endured a dreadful record against the rest of the big four domestically this season. The Blues suffered four defeats out of five games against the likes of the other big three, with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United being their best result.

A controversial 2-1 loss against Arsenal last year saw them worsen their record at Stamford Bridge – already tarnished by Alonso’s lone goal winner some days before.

The wound of this defeat still lives in Chelsea’s heart; revenge against the Gunners on Saturday is the only thing Abrahamovic will pray for.

The 2007 FA Cup Champions will taste their fourth consecutive final in all competition in these last four years if they indeed beat Arsenal in their semi-final game on Saturday.

This clash will be Guus Hiddink’s first domestic cup competition match and he’ll surely want his side to clinch their first domestic win against a giant side this season.

Does Hiddink have the potential to emulate what Mourinho managed to do two years ago?

Arsenal: Bring some glory home!

More than three years have passed since Arsene Wenger last managed to deliver a trophy to his London club. Many people will blame it on Thierry Henry’s departure from the club but those excuses and complaints do not help in any way. What happened has happened and Arsenal are now yet to cool down their fans’ desire.

Arsene Wenger’s young talents will want to brush away their last FA Cup defeat which was in the hands of another team from the big four – Manchester United.

The Gunners found their way to this very stage of the competition in a controversial manner at the expense of Phil Brown’s Hull City with a late 2-1 victory on March 14. Their reward was a thrilling encounter against local rivals Chelsea which will be played later this week.

Arsenal’s Premiership campaign is certainly over compared to Chelsea who are still vying for the title. Winning at least one domestic title will come as a huge relief to the Gunners who haven’t enjoyed any silverware in more than three years now.

But to do that, it means that Arsene Wenger will have to lead his Arsenal team to yet another victory against the Blues this season.

Who will help separate the boys from the men come Saturday.
