The crosstown rivals clash in what is expected to be another fiercely-contested encounter at the Malvinas Argentinas stadium in Mendoza on Sunday.

While Boca come into the derby with high spirits, after having beaten River 2-0 in Chaco midweek, their rivals will be hoping to avenge their defeat with what would be a boosting victory.

River, who were relegated to the Argentine second division midway through last year, have reinforced their squad with several high-profile players this season in an attempt to warrant a prompt return to the Argentine top-flight.

River coach Matias Almeyda, will field his strongest possible line-up to confront the clash, in order to increase their chances of obtaining a victory, even if Los Millonarios visit Almirante Brown in the restart of the Argentine second division on February 5.

If River manage to beat Boca, the winners of the Copa Luis B. Nofal will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Taking into account Boca's upcoming agenda, Julio Falcioni, the coach of the club, has decided to rest some players for the debut of the Copa Argentina against Santamarina of Tandil in Salta on Thursday.

Once again Boca won't count with the presence of playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, as well as Clemente Rodriguez, Diego Rivero, Santiago Silva, Dario Cvitanich, who all didn't travel to Mendoza, as didn't Matias Caruzzo, who is sidelined with an inflamed left knee.

Due to this, Falcioni will be forced into making several modifications to his squad, with Juan Sanchez replacing the suspended Facundo Roncaglia and Sergio Araujo in for Pablo Mouche. While Falcioni has yet to decide whether Walter Erviti or Nicolas Colazo will start the game. The coach is also in doubt as whether to replace Leandro Somoza with Cristian Erbes.

Meanwhile, Almeyda has already confirmed his starting eleven, with the obvious exclusion of the suspended Alejandro Dominguez, who was sent-off against Boca. Lucas Ocampos will return to the side, and will replace youngster Federico Andrada.

French striker David Trezeguet will start from the kick-off in the place of Rogelio Funes Mori, while Lucas Abecasis, Juan Manuel Diaz and Venezuelan midfielder Cesar Gonzalez will replace Luciano Vella, Carlos Arano and Dominguez, respectively.

Boca Juniors defeat arch-rivals River Plate for the second time in a week thanks to a first-half strike from Pablo Mouche.

The Argentine champions reaffirmed their supremacy over their crosstown rivals with a 1-0 triumph at the Malvinas Argentinas stadium in Mendoza on Sunday, which won them the Copa Luis Nofal.

A first-half header from skilful winger Pablo Mouche was enough to give Boca Juniors a justified victory over a evidently inferior River Plate outfit.

Boca, who had already beaten River 2-0 on Wednesday, once again proved their superiority in the superclasico even if they won by the narrowest of margins.

The eagerly-awaited contest started at a frantic pace, as both sides went in search of a quick opener.

River were instantly hit with a major blow, as accomplished French striker David Trezeguet had to exit the field in the 10th minute due to injury.

The game had lacked goal-scoring opportunities, right until the 28th minute, when Pablo Ledesma did well to send a cross into the area from the byline which Mouche met at the back post with a simple header to put Boca ahead.

River seemed to lift their game after conceding the goal, and could have drawn level moments later, but captain Fernando Cavenaghi fired a first-time shot well over the bar after connecting to a left-wing cross.

In the second period Los Millonarios continued to look dangerous, particularly through midfielder Carlos Sanchez, who not only intercepted important balls in the middle of the park but also supplied River's attackers with adequate service.

Matias Almeyda's side desperately attacked the Boca goal, but once they reached the area could only manufacture weak attempts on Sebastian Sosa's goal.

River had much of the ball, but once they entered Boca's half they lacked the necessary firepower to penetrate a considerably solid defence.

Boca seemed content to hold onto the result, and went on to beat their eternal rivals for the second time in the space of just five days.
