Sporting CP Lisbon vs FC Porto Match Preview
The big match in Portugal this weekend sees Sporting host FC Porto in Lisbon.

Sporting coach Domingos Paciência will look to get one over the club he served with such distinction as a player
After a highly impressive start to the season, the new-look Sporting have hit an indifferent run of form, winning just one of their last four matches. Defeat against FC Porto will create a nine-point gap between the Lions and the Liga ZON Sagres leaders, but Sporting coach Domingos Paciência insists the match is not decisive.
“There is a long way to go in the championship. Regardless of this game nothing will be decided and nobody will become champions. We will simply be striving to win another game, like we will in our next matches against Nacional and Braga,” said Domingos.
Porto have not lost in the league for close to two years. Their last defeat was on 28 February 2010, precisely at the venue of Saturday’s encounter - the José Alvalade stadium. But Domingos is not reading much into that particular statistic.
“The result is always difficult to predict because these games are always full of emotion and adrenalin. It makes no sense to talk about favorites. I hope it’s a great spectacle and football is the winner. We’ll be doing everything to try and win.”
The hosts have been boosted by the return from long-term injury of Russian midfielder Marat Izmailov, who came on as a second-half substitute in the midweek draw at Rio Ave after several months out of action following knee surgery. Izmailov has made a habit out of scoring against the Dragons and may go straight into the side in place of young winger André Carrillo.
Porto come into the match on the back of the three-game winning run, but have not played since before Christmas. Coach Vítor Pereira has been able to bring fit-again midfielder Steven Defour back into the squad, and was further boosted by the news that midfielder Djalma has been authorized to play the match before joining the Angola squad ahead of the African Cup of Nations.
James Rodríguez is also back in the squad after shaking off flu symptoms this week.
Kick off at 8.15pm at the Estádio do Alvalade on Saturday.
Sporting CP Lisbon vs FC Porto Match Report
An intense match at the Alvalade stadium finished goalless between Sporting and FC Porto.
A bumper crowd of 49,000 turned up to watch one of Portugal's classic fixtures.
Sporting knew defeat would all but rule them out of the title race, and in a game of few chances may feel they did enough to take all three points.
Anderson Polga with a header, and Marat Izmailov with a late chance came close to finding the net for the Lions.
But in Hulk Porto had the best player on the pitch, and the Dragons almost nicked it in stoppage time when James Rodriguez's goalbound shot was stopped by his team-mate Otamendi.
A point for each team was a fair result after a hard-fought encounter.
