Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Match Preview
Barcelona are poised to grab 3 more points against Real Sociedad as La Liga enters match-day 2 this weekend.

Like Real Sociedad, Barcelona were one of the 7 teams to win on match-day 1.
The Catalans made it look so easy on match-day 1 when they destroyed Villarreal 5-0 at the Camp Nou stadium. Lionel Messi opened his goal scoring account with a brace whereas Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez netted a league debut goal each.
Real Sociedad might do better than Villarreal, but their chances of stealing points from the Catalans are extremely slim. A cautious Dani Alves couldn’t explain Barcelona’s ambitions better. The Brazilian defender was quoted as saying during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday:
“Although, in general, people think that the league titles are decided in the games against the major rivals, I’d rather think that La Liga can be won or lost at grounds such as [the Anoeta].”
Number 9 striker Agirretxe offered Real Sociedad a precious 2-1 win against Sporting de Gijon on the first match-day of La Liga. But having conceded a penalty goal, expectations are that Sociedad’s back line will be ripped apart by Barca’s attackers.
Carles Puyol is not expected to be on the pitch against Real Sociedad. The Spaniard’s return from injury has been scheduled for next week’s Champions League match against AC Milan. Gerard Pique is also likely to miss this weekend’s La Liga encounter as he didn’t take part in Thursday’s training session.
However, the good news for Pep Guardiola is that none of his players who went on international duty have returned injured. The Barcelona manager has his full squad available at the exception of the injured Pique.
Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Match Report
Real Madrid have the chance to create a 2-point gap over rivals Barcelona who failed to beat Real Sociedad on Saturday afternoon.

Barcelona couldn't defeat Real Sociedad. Final result: 2-2
With Cesc Fabregas and Xavi Hernandez finding the net in quick succession inside the first quarter of an hour, it seemed as if the day was Barcelona’s. But the Catalans didn’t record a routine win.
Real Sociedad’s Agirretxe pulled a goal back at the 59th minute. A few moments later, Antoine Griezmann punished Barcelona’s defense with another strike.
Lionel Messi got introduced into the game inside the 63rd minute. Andres Iniesta also came onto the pitch 10 minutes from time.
Both key players had started the match from the bench because of next week’s Champions League battle against AC Milan. However, their introduction didn’t mean that much for the visitors.
To end the game on a negative note, Lionel Messi produced what seemed like a dive. But the referee didn’t get fooled. He booked Messi and awarded no penalty for Barcelona. The hosts could breathe in relief. Antonio Mateu Lahoz’s final whistle meant that minnows Real Sociedad had succeeded in letting giant Barca drop 2 precious points.
Dani Alves had stated ahead of the match that league titles are won at grounds like the Anoeta. He might as well be hoping right now that Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad will have a very little impact on the Catalans’ defense of their La Liga trophy.
