Team NewsIt is very likely that Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson will not play the full 90 minutes. Both players suffered injuries during international duty with England in midweek. Daniel Agger’s exclusion from Kenny Dalglish’s roster is confirmed.
Medical reports explain that the Denmark player has a broken rib. The wound, picked up during last weekend’s Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City, could take Agger out for up to four weeks. The pressure will be on Downing and Craig Bellamy to give out a great performance in the wings.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will have to organise against Liverpool without the injured Aaron Ramsey. Arsene Wenger might have to structure his team without Vermaelen and Rosicky as well. Rosicky is recovering from back problems while Vermaelen has an ankle injury. Both players are a doubt for Saturday’s lunch time kick-off.
However, the presence of Ivory Coast star winger Gervinho and Dutch striker Robin van Persie should improve the play of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Benayoun. There is a chance for Ignasi Miquel and Johan Djourou to be in Arsenal’s starting XI.
The good news for Liverpool is that they have a game in hand which decreases the scare of being in seventh position and seven points behind rivals Arsenal. This weekend’s clash at Anfield will go a long way defining the fate of Liverpool and Arsenal’s place in next season’s European competitions.

Arsenal are fresh from a stunning 5-2 comeback victory over Tottenham Hotspur. That game completely showed the Gunners’ intention to finish fourth, at least. Liverpool have the same aspiration as Arsenal. There are many more weeks to go and the standings could change. For the Merseyside Reds, time is running out.
However, fans are hoping that the Carling Cup triumph means the moment has come to turn the tables around in the English Premier League. Due to both team’s injury worries, Liverpool vs. Arsenal may not live up to expectation in terms of performance. Fatigue, following the international break, may influence the game as mentality and crucial mistakes could decide the final result.
Prediction: Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal
