Stoke City vs Newcastle United Match Preview
Newcastle United will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they travel to face Stoke City.
Newcastle can climb up to third place with a win at the Britannia Stadium, while Stoke can climb into the top half of the table if they collect three points.
Stoke will be looking to boost their spirits after losing 3-1 at Arsenal and being knocked out of the Carling Cup by Liverpool in the previous week.
Newcastle were also knocked out of the Carling Cup in midweek by Blackburn Rovers, but are unbeaten so far in what has been an excellent start to the Premier League season.
Jermaine Pennant has returned from injury for Stoke, while defender Jonathan Woodgate is fit and is expected to start against his former club. Mamady Sidibe is ruled out for the Potters due to a long-term knee injury.
Newcastle defender Steven Taylor could be playing in a protective mask after breaking his nose, while Shola Ameobi is sidelined with a hamstring problem. Cheik Tiote is struggling with a knee injury and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.
