Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi opened the scoring for Italy against Ukraine.
Italy recorded a convincing 2-0 win over Ukraine in a friendly in Kiev. Giuseppe Rossi and Alessandro Matri scored the goals for Italy as Cesare Prandelli returns home with two victories in succession.
While the game against Ukraine was just a friendly, the result was testament to Italy's depth. Prandelli fielded a completely different line-up to the one that delivered a 1-0 victory against Slovenia on Friday.
A 4-3-1-2 formation saw Emiliano Viviano in goal behind a defence of Cristian Maggio, Gastaldello, Giorgio Chiellini, and Domenico Criscito. In midfield Nocerino, Claudio Marchisio and Riccardo Montilivio took their place. Alberto Aquilani supplied Gilardino and Giuseppe Rossi as the playmaker.
It was Rossi who broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, pouncing on a deflected ball in the area.
Late in the second half, Astori, who replaced the injured Chiellini in the 17th minute, was sent off for a second bookable offence (he kicked the ball away), but Italy still managed to make it 2-0.
Sebastian Giovinco did well to backheel into the path of Matri, and the Juventus striker scored to double Italy's lead in the 81st minute.
