AO Xanthi vs AEK Athens Match Preview
AEK’s 4-0 home defeat at the hands of promoted Olympiakos Volos was arguably the low point in a season of struggle for the Kitrinomavroi. Manolo Jimenez was philosophical about the loss suggesting that “this is who we are.” Jimenez has spoken out this week over the club’s small squad and that the team is a “Ferrari without an engine.”
Nevertheless, AEK need to step up their play in order to ensure the highest possible playoff place. The team have signed a couple of winter transfer window recruits with the capture of Nabil Baha (Malaga) and Michel (Birmingham City) on loan deals.
Xanthi have done well to turn their entire campaign around, however two consecutive defeats mean that points are needed if they are to stay in the race for the last playoff berth. Home success could make all the difference as the club have only won three of their nine home matches all season.
