Almería vs Mallorca Match Preview

Jose Luis Oltra's Almeria have not yet been able to celebrate a single victory at the Estadio del Mediterraneo, while Mallorca wants recover after three consecutive defeats.

The game will have an additional flavor as only two years ago Mallorca eliminated Almeria from the Spanish Cup in this very same stage. The hosts will be missing Juanma Ortiz while Michael Laudrup will have to do without Jose Luis Marti.

Almeria has never made it further than the round of sixteen in the Copa del Rey. This is a golden opportunity to feed on Mallorca's misery and write a new page in their history. The Boquerones won't give up without a fight, who'll claim the full scoring?

Almería vs Mallorca Match Report

Almeria and Mallorca played one of the most exciting games of the week. The visitors came back from a one-goal disadvantage twice, but eventually Almeria claimed the three points lead by Argentinean striker Leonardo Ulloa, who score his first hat-trick in Spain.

Jonathan De Guzman played a major role in the development of the game: His ball recovery skills were essential for Mallorca to overcome Ulloa's early goal in the 7th minute of the game. De Guzman found the leveller in the 23th minute of the game with a perfectly placed ball.

The balance lasted only six minutes, as Ulloa connected a perfect header to give Almeria once again the advantage. Víctor Casadesús, however, levelled the game again in the very last minute of the first half.

Almeria was much stronger in the second half. Kalu Uche and Pablo Piatti's partnership proved successful. It took 15 minutes for Almeria to recover the upper hand of the game, but in seven minutes Uche first, and Ulloa later secured the game for the hosts.

It looked like the game was already over, but Carlos García gifted Pierre Webo the ball in the 90th minute of the game, and the Cameroonian striker didn't hesitate on shortening Almeria's advantage. The result was not that adverse for Mallorca, as they can qualify by defeating Almeria 1-0 next week at home.
