Portuguese international Simao was the star of the match in his last game with Atletico. Atletico's offense relied heavily on Aguero's endless thirst for glory. Eventually, he run out of ideas and Fran Merida failed to continue with such furious advance. This let Espanyol gain more spaces. Osvaldo connected a powerful header that De Gea managed to deflect.

Espanyol must now make Cornella-El-Prat its fortress again, after Barcelona gave them their first defeat in the season. Atletico must prepare to score an early goal that'll almost secure their qualification for the next round.
