Willem II vs De Graafschap Match Preview
Willem II and De Graafschap have some unfinished business to attend to on Wednesday night. The clubs started their Eredivisie encounter in Tilburg on Friday 12 November, but the match was abandoned due to heavy rain at 0-0 in the 59th minute. They’ll only play the remaining 31 minutes.
The first hour of the match was pretty equal, with Willem II regrouping fairly well after a good start from the visitors two weeks ago. The ‘Tricolores’ are in desperate need of a good result after their 5-0 defeat on Sunday. All other bottom tabled clubs gained points except for VVV-Venlo, who are second from bottom seven points ahead of Willem II. Coach Gert Heerkes is still waiting for his first League win after 14 matches with Willem II. The club already equaled the Eredivisie record of losing their first six home matches this season. If they lose again they will break the RKC Waalwijk record from the 1998/1999 season.
De Graafschap will go into the last hour of the match confidently. Rydell Poepon led the ‘Superboeren’ to a 3-1 victory over Roda JC with a hat-trick on Sunday. The former Willem II striker scored eight goals in 14 matches this season.
Willem II vs De Graafschap Match Report
Willem II took their third point of the season when they drew 1-1 at home against Excelsior on Saturday. Evgeniy Levchenko shot home the equalizer in the 89th minute after Kaj Ramsteijn put the visitors 1-0 up in the 51st minute.
Both relegation candidates worked hard, but could not display a decent game of football in Tilburg. The home crowd who sent an open letter to the team demanding “Blood, sweat and goals”, were very supportive. They also wrote “We will never desert you”, and remained cheering for their team even when they were 1-0 down.
Willem II’s draw gave the bottom team their first point at home since a 3-1 win against Sparta Rotterdam on 14 March 2010.
