Olympiakos Volos vs Panionios Athens Match Preview
Olympiakos Volos were one of the pleasant surprises of the first part of the league campaign. The promoted club were the league’s draw specialists, tying 8 of their 15 matches, but that didn’t stop them from finishing in 7th position just before the winter break. With a solid defense and good home record this is a side that could still move up to claim one of the league’s European spots.
Volos will expect nothing less than a win this week over a Panionios side that looks to be in complete disarray. Manager Takis Lemonis has been installed in order to improve the club’s fortunes, though at this point relegation appears to be a distinct possibility.
The selling of two of the club’s best players to Olympiakos has also angered the club’s supporters. The key to the deal however sending Maniatis and Kumordzi to Olympiakos may be the loan signing of Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglou, a deadly frontman that Panionios desperately need as they only managed 9 goals in 15 matches, a league worst during the season’s first half.
