AEK Athens vs AE Larissa Match Preview

AEK will attempt to get back on track and plunge Larisa into deeper misery with a victory on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium. Manolo Jimenez will have been upset at how his side threw away the points last week against Atromitos in a 1-1 draw. Now 10 points adrift, a challenge for the league title looks beyond AEK unless they can reel off some wins. Though the team are looking good in the Europa League, Jimenez has expressed his concern over the depth of his squad and said his players have seem tired lately.

Larisa would have hoped for a much better inaugural match at their AEL FC Arena stadium last week instead of the 2-1 defeat to PAOK. The loss kept the club in last place and defeat this weekend against AEK would cement the fact that this team are in real danger of dropping a division. Welsh manager Chris Coleman has been selected as the club’s new manager and he will take over after this weekend’s fixture. Larisa supporters will hope that some stability finally comes to a turbulent season with Coleman’s appointment.

AEK Athens vs AE Larissa Match Report

Larisa were no match for AEK on Sunday as Manolo Jimenez’s team used a few late goals to power them to an impressive 4-0 win. Larisa were perhaps better than the scoreline suggests and had some chances when the score was still 1-0 to draw level. AEK opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ismael Blanco, but had to wait until the 83rd to add to their advantage. In the meantime, the match saw two sending offs. The first occurred in the 55th minute and saw AEK boss Jimenez given his marching orders for excessive complaining to the referee, while in the 77th minute Larisa were reduced to 10 men after Fabio Cannobio picked up his second yellow card.

Nikos Lymberopoulos added the second seven minutes from time and AEK then saw Traianos Dellas score in the 88th minute and Blanco in injury time get his second and AEK’s fourth to complete the rout. AEK maintain 3rd place with the three points while Larisa remain dead last in the Super League.
