Bozidar Bandovic takes the helm at Kerkyra for the first time ahead of this weekend’s match against Panionios. The former Olympiakos manager was named as head coach after Babis Tennes left the club this week by mutual decision.Tennes had help bring Kerkyra back to the top flight, but after a recent slide which has seen the team winless in their last five matches the pressure had been building on Tennes. Bandovic is now entrusted with leading the team to Super League survival.
Panionios are yet another side near the bottom of the table who have shown signs of life recently. Two consecutive 1-0 wins have not allowed Akis Mantzios’ men to climb out of the bottom three, but psychologically those victories have been priceless. A victory in this match would be a vital one in the fight to avoid the drop.

Flavinho’s 17th minute goal made all the difference as Kerkyra boss Bozidar Bandovic got off to a winning start in his debut defeating Panionios 1-0. Kerkyra scored through a nice sequence of passing in their first worthwhile attempt of the match as Flavinho was on hand at the far post to touch into the net.Kerkyra had struggled in recent weeks in sharp contrast to the improvement Panionios had shown in that same time period. And Akis Mantzios’ side did push forward and had their chances. Dimitris Konstantopoulos in the Kerkyra net was in inspired form and held firm on a couple of occasions. Late on, he too could only have wondered how Bosko Balaban managed to miss from inside six yards as he blasted his effort well over Konstantopoulos’ goal in what was a golden opportunity to steal a point deep into injury time.
