Panathinaikos Athens vs Panserraikos Match Preview
Panathinaikos will be the heavy favorites on Saturday when they welcome Panserraikos to the Olympic Stadium in Athens. Jesualdo Ferreira will be hoping that Djibril Cisse’s recent bout with fever will be gone in time for the French striker to be in the starting line-up.
Cisse has taken the Super League by storm this season with his 12 goals tops amongst all scorers. With the club only having one European match remaining, a meaningless Champions’ League tie next week against FC Copenhagen, the focus will now turn to defending their league title.
Panserraikos have staged an impressive comeback in the last month that has seen the club go from relegation certainties to winners of three of five matches and emergence from the drop zone. Having saved their season with a fine November, the club would like nothing more than to claim an unlikely point this weekend against the league leaders.
Panathinaikos Athens vs Panserraikos Match Report
Panathinaikos ensured they remained top of the table with a difficult 2-0 victory over an impressive Panserraikos. Jesualdo Ferreira’s team opened the scoring through Jean-Alain Boumsoung’s header in the 16th minute after a good delivery from Lazaros Christodoulopoulos. Panserraikos responded well to the early goal however and were good value for one themselves, but poor finishing and some decent goalkeeping by Alexandros Tzorvas in the Panathinaikos goal prevented the visitors from scoring.
Panserraikos had reasonable claims for a penalty just before the half as Damian Plessis clearly handled a corner-kick, however the referee waved play on. Panserraikos remained dangerous, but Panathinaikos were more clinical and finished the match in the 69th minute. Christodoulopoulos was at the heart of the action again as he eluded his marker on the left and squared the ball for Djibril Cisse to tap home from a yard out.
