Panionios Athens vs PAE APS Atromitos Athens Match Preview

Veteran Greek manager Giorgos Paraschos was unveiled as new Panionios boss this week, taking over from the fired Mikael Stahre and recent interim coach Akis Mantzios.

Paraschos will not be able to lead his new side on Saturday in their relegation clash with Atromitos because he is serving a one-match touchline ban. Both sides will see this match-up as a must-win affair. Defeat will ensure one team will be last in the league with a third of the season completed.

Though both teams are coming off losses to the top two of the Greek Super League last weekend, Atromitos produced a good performance to narrowly lose 1-0 to Panathinaikos.

Panionios meanwhile suffered a heavy defeat (5-0) away to Olympiakos. Even at this early stage of the season this is a vital fixture where the winner will be given a sure boost in the fight to avoid the drop.

Atromitos picked up a deserved 1-0 away win over troubled Panionios, plunging the Athens-based side further into a relegation struggle. Andreas Tatos scored the winning goal in the 35th minute as he dribbled to the top of the box and let loose with a low shot that beat Panionios goalkeeper Juergen Macho.

It should have been a more comfortable win for Giorgos Donis’ side who had chances to extend their lead, the best of the lot being Tatos’ 64th minute shot that came back off the post. Though they were outplayed for much of the match, Panionios could have snatched something from the game had Sito Riera’s half volley not hit the crossbar and bounced over late on.

Panionios now fall to last place in the league with the loss while Atromitos is up to 12th with 10 points.
