Greece vs Croatia Match Preview

Angela Asante, Oct 4th 2011
It will be a battle for an automatic berth when Greece will welcome rivals Croatia on home soil this Friday.
Greece and Croatia played out a 0-0 draw the last time they met in the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Greece and Croatia played out a 0-0 draw the last time they met in the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifiers.
A year ago, when Croatia and Greece met in Zagreb, neither side managed to kill the other. The match ended in a goalless draw and a repeat of such a result will be more beneficial to Group F leaders Croatia this time out.

However, it will emphasize the importance of each team’s very last Euro 2012 qualifier. On October 11, Croatia will host Latvia whereas Greece will end their campaign away to Georgia.

In fact, next Tuesday’s matches will lose the “thriller factor” if Croatia beat Greece on Friday. A 4-point gap will seal the Croatians’ UEFA Euro 2012 qualification as group winners.

Things are so tight between Greece and Croatia at the top of the standings. The latter lead the table by only a point. But that gap could increase or decrease on Friday when both teams will affront each other at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

Controversial English referee Howard Webb will officiate this crucial UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier. Note that Greece are unbeaten in Group F and that their home record (3-1-0) beats Croatia’s away record (3-0-1). Out of their 2 meetings with the Croatians on home soil, the Greeks have triumphed once and lost once.
