Lecce vs Fiorentina Match Preview
Lecce were dismantled 4-0 by Milan on the opening day of the season, a result that has undoubtedly shattered their confidence. True, it was Milan they were playing, a daunting prospect for the club, but it was the manner in which they capitulated: with barely a whimper as they were repeatedly carved open in defence. Against Fiorentina, they will probably not find the gauntlet as tough, but they will have to be at their best against Sinisa Mihajlovic's team if they are to salvage even a point.
Alberto Gilardino will start as the reference point in Fiorentina's attack, while Riccardo Montolivo and Cristiano Zanetti will pull the strings in midfield. Goalkeeper Sebastian Frey will play behind a defence of De Silvestri, Natali, Koldrup and Pasqual.
For their part Lecce will start with Corvia in attack and may introduce Javier Chevanton later on in the game. However, they will struggle either way and should lose 3-1 to Fiorentina.
Lecce vs Fiorentina Match Report
Lecce reinvigorated themselves brilliantly after a drubbing at the hands of Milan last week by defeating Fiorentina 1-0 at home. In the eighth minute, Davide Di Michele scored when Riccardo Montolivo could not clear a free-kick properly. That Lecce held on for 82 minutes against a superior attack speaks volumes about their tenacity. It also puts the pressure firmly on Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, a man with a penchant for impropriety as a player and immodesty as a coach. Yet, to be fair, even he was adamant that Fiorentina had no excuses not to take full points from their game against Lecce.
