Juventus vs Sampdoria Match Preview
Coach Gigi Del Neri will come up against former club Sampdoria as Juventus look for their maiden win of the season. The Old Lady of Italian football were shocked 1-0 by Bari in their opener, a result that has immediately put pressure on the coach. Yet, with so many new faces at the club--Fabio Quagliarella, Simone Pepe, and Alberto Aquiliani to name a few--Juventus will take at least a couple of months to find their rhythym.
Evergreen Alessandro Del Piero will most likely line up with Qugaliarella, meaning Vincenzo Iaquinta, who has recently returned from injury, will start on the bench.
Sampdoria are brimming with confidence after a 2-0 win over Lazio. Antonio Cassano, who was reportedly close to moving to Juventus over the summer, is in superb form as his brilliant performance for Italy against Faroe Islands proves. With him and Giampaolo Pazzini, Sampdoria could steal another three points, and heap pressure on Del Neri. However, Juve will be eager and a 1-1 draw should be the result.
Juventus vs Sampdoria Match Report
Juventus and Sampdoria shared the spoils in a thrilling 3-3 draw. The point does little to alleviate Juventus's anxieties, but confirms Sampdoria as one of the credible contenders in Serie A. Juve coach Gigi Del Neri was still missing Gianluigi Buffon through injury, while Sampdoria could not rely on Giampaolo Pazzini. Marco Storari started in goal for Juve and found himself picking the ball from his net in the 36th minute when Nicola Pozzi fired home a low shot from an Antonio Cassano pass. Storari could do little about the goal.
Juve knew they needed to get three points to get their season on track, and Alessandro Del Piero could have restored parity moments later, but his free-kick grazed the post. However, Claudio Marchisio was more fortunate with his effort, thumping home a half-volley after new signing Krasic had laid off an inviting ball for him.
In the second half, Simone Pepe made it 2-1, scrambling home a loose ball in the area. The lead lasted only eleven minutes as in the 61st minute Cassano volleyed in a brilliant goal. Yet, the game continued to sway back and forth, and Fabio Quagliarella made it 3-2 when Pepe's shot hit the post, allowing Quagliarella to tap in from close range.
There was yet to be more drama. Pozzi headed in the equalizer for Sampdoria in the 73rd minute, completing the goal tally of a spectacular game.
