Benfica vs SC Olhanense Match Preview
Although Benfica remain in second place eight points behind FC Porto, the Eagles managed to cut the gap to the leaders last weekend.
Coach Jorge Jesus will look to take advantage of the fact his team are first in action this weekend. A win against Olhanense on Friday will not only be Benfica’s 8th victory in nine Liga games, but it will, at least temporarily, pull them to within five points of Porto, thus putting pressure on the Dragons who only play on Monday.
Olhanense have a poor record on the road, drawing three and losing three of their six games, and earning a point at the Estadio da Luz would be a considerable achievement.
Benfica vs SC Olhanense Match Report
Benfica came out on top in an entertaining game at the Estadio da Luz. Home goalkeeper Roberto had to be on top of his game to prevent the enterprising Algarve side from taking a surprise lead, producing an excellent save to deny Jorge Goncalves.
A clanger from Moretto handed the reigning champions the lead just before the break, as the Olhanense goalkeeper let an Oscar Cardozo header slip through his hands and into the net.
Benfica were dominant in the second half, and Saviola ensured victory by getting on the end of a corner that David Luiz had flicked on to head in the second goal on 80 minutes.
