Twente vs De Graafschap Match Preview
FC Twente won 4-2 at NEC last week, but they lost Bryan Ruiz with a severe knee injury in that match. The prolific Costa Rican striker never missed a match since he arrived at FC Twente at the beginning of the last season. The ‘Tukkers’ only lost four matches with Ruiz on the pitch.
Twente expect Ruiz to be back after the Winter break. Marc Janko was shocked when he saw the injury of his fellow striker. “I thought no not him, all our dangerous attacks start with Ruiz.” Michel Preud’homme was prepared. “We contract Arnold Bruggink and Anouar Diba on purpose”, the Twente coach said.
De Graafschap will meet another neighbor on Saturday after their 1-1 home draw in the derby against Vitesse last week. The Superboeren will try to grab their first away win at Twente in Eredivisie history. De Graafschap never won in 17 Eredivisie matches in Enschede and they only scored three times.
Twente vs De Graafschap Match Report
FC Twente completely relied on Theo Janssen against De Graafschap. The ‘Tukkers’ were not at the best of their game on Saturday and scoring appeared to be difficult, but Janssen saved the three points for Twente with two deadly precise free-kicks: 2-0.
The home team played without injured Bryan Ruiz, who is out until January, and Deny Landzaat replaced the Costa Rican striker. Defender Douglas was back after a suspension and Rasmus Bengtsson played instead of Thilo Leugers, who had replaced injured Dwight Tiendalli the past couple of weeks. Tiendalli made his return as a substitute ten minutes from time.
With their win Twente remain second on the table with 37 points from 17 matches. Last season the title holders were leading with 47 points at the halfway point.
