NEC vs Twente Match Preview
“We have bounce back and show what we are capable of against NEC”, Michel Preud’homme said. The title holders lost their last two League matches and were thrown out of the Champions League when they lost 1-0 at Internazionale on Wednesday.
Theo Janssen, Douglas are suspended and goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov will be sidelined because he suffered a light knee injury against Internazionale. Wiljan Vloet still fears Twente’s strength. “They still have many good players left”, the NEC coach said.
Vloet has his own problems as well. The manager asked Rens van Eijden to delay a knee operation until the winter break because of Mark Otten’s suspension. “There is no medical risk”, Vloet said. “If only one doctor had told me that this was too dangerous, I would not have done it.”
NEC vs Twente Match Report
FC Twente bounced back after two consecutive league losses with a 4-2 away win against NEC on Saturday. NEC were a tough nut to crack for the title holders, who were kicked out of the Champions League due to their 1-0 defeat at Internazionale on Wednesday. Their win in Nijmegen put them alongside PSV at the top of the table.
Twente got themselves into trouble when they forgot to mark Bas Sibum in the ninth minute. The former Twente midfielder easily scored after a free kick by John Goossens. Bryan Ruiz equalized in the 18th minute, but Twente who played without the suspended Douglas and Theo Janssen, could not impress in the first half in The Goffert.
NEC gave the match away in five minutes. Lasse Schöne wanted to do something fancy under pressure in his own box, but failed and lost the ball to Nacer Chadli, who handed Marc Janko a one hundred percent chance to score: 2-1 (40’). Four minutes later Rens van Eijden caused a penalty when he fouled Luuk de Jong with a late tackle. Bryan Ruiz converted the spot kick.
In the second half Björn Vleminckx (74’) scored 3-2 for the home team, but Marc Janko immediately answered with the 4-2 five minutes later. Vleminckx took the sole lead on the Eredivisie top scorer table with his 12th goal from 16 matches. Mounir El Hamdaoui (Ajax) and Ricky van Wolfswinkel (FC Utrecht) are on 11 goals from 15 matches.
