Pachuca vs Querétaro FC Match Preview
Pachuca will attempt to keep a good thing going when they face a seemingly weaker Gallos side at home this weekend.
With 19 points, the Tuzos are just one point above Querétaro in the league table, but their second-half consistency make them a favorite to beat Angel David Comizzo's squad at the Estadio Hidalgo.
Queretaro beat Atlas 2-1 at the Estadio Jalisco last weekend and suddenly thrust themselves in the playoff picture, by virtue of getting to 18 points, just three behind eighth place Toluca.
Pablo Marini's team will attempt to exploit Querétaro's weak offense, which has allowed 25 goals in just 15 matches this season.
Pachuca vs Querétaro FC Match Report
Pachuca's chances were greatly bolstered as they were able to take advantage of Gallos' inconsistency last Saturday at the Estadio Hidalgo.
The Tuzos won out on a 2-1 decision that initially featured a Dario Cvitanich brace that was later reverted, as it was deemed that the decisive 60th minute goal was actually a Jorge Adrian Cardenas own goal.
Cvitanich did score in the game's ninth minute, the match's opening salvo, and later had to watch as Adrian Romero scored for Queretaro, tying proceedings at 1 and bidding adieu to Pachuca's playoff chances.
An errant Edgar Benitez penalty kick could have brought the home team down, but Cvitanich's deflected strike seven minutes later restored the game's momentum in favor of the home side.
Gallos are now officially eliminated, and Pachuca are in eighth place, with destiny completely in their control. A win gets them in.
