Estudiantes Tecos vs Atlas Match Preview
The weekend of games will be kicked off with a derby as Estudiantes Tecos and Atlas face off in an all-Guadalajara match-up.
Atlas finally crawled out of the league's bottom spot by beating San Luis last weekend with a last-minute penalty kick that pushed Atlante down into the spot of dishonor by virtue of goal difference, as both teams have eight points.
Estudiantes Tecos, on the other hand, have not been able to find their groove under new manager Eduardo Acevedo, who has won just one of his five games in charge.
Making matters worse, they will be without captain Juan Carlos Leaño, who was suspended for controversial remarks regarding officiating.
Estudiantes Tecos vs Atlas Match Report
Mexican-American striker Sammy Ochoa scored ten minutes before the official's whistle ended hostilities in the Estadio Tres de Marzo, giving home team Estudiantes Tecos the definitive edge in their derby clash with Atlas.
Estudiantes had gone ahead in the 18th minute thanks to a Rafael Medina strike, but promptly gave up the lead six minutes later Edgar Pacheco found Flavio Santos in the box, who then headed the ball past Christian Martínez to draw level.
That would eventually set up Ochoa's goal in the 80th minute; he had come on three minutes prior, replacing starter Taufic Guarch.
With the result in hand, Tecos got another boon close to the end, when Atlas midfielder Enrique Vera picked up his second yellow and was sent off in the 92nd minute.
The loss dropped Atlas back down into the lowest rung of the league table.
