DC United vs San Jose Earthquakes Match Preview

The San Jose Earthquakes travel to D.C. United with a chance to clinch a playoff berth against a team who has never beaten them in MLS regular season play. D.C. are the worst team in MLS but did produce an upset 1-0 victory on the road at Colorado last week.

D.C. have a lot of injuries on the back line, and have even resorted bringing in USL defender J.P. Rodrigues on emergency loan from Miami FC. United must also do without Rookie of the Year candidate Andy Najar, who will be suspended through yellow card accumulation.

The Earthquakes can clinch a wild card berth if they win and Kansas City lose. The Earthquakes will hope a strong defense and the creativity of recent arrival Geovanni can lead them past D.C. here and take them on a playoff run.

PREDICTION: D.C. United 1 San Jose Earthquakes 1. A tie keeps the Earthquakes on track but will not clinch a playoff spot.

DC United vs San Jose Earthquakes Match Report

DC United lost 0-2 to San Jose at RFK field. San Jose are now through to the playoffs and look to be gathering momentum for the post season.

An ugly exchange of elbows between Jaime Moreno and Brandon McDonald in the 5th minute saw both players ejected. The game settled down afterwards, but San Jose looked more dangerous in the half.

A brace from midfielder Chris Wondolowski completed a strong display from the Earthquakes away from home. His goals came in the 45th and 55th minutes, and the result eliminates Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire from reaching the playoffs.
