Newcastle United vs Blackpool Match Preview

Ivory Coast international Chiek Tiote has arrived at Newcastle from FC Twenty for an undisclosed sum. French international (and renowned bad boy) Hatem ben Arfa has arrived on loan from Marseille. Meanwhile unfit Sol Campbell is regaining fitness and dropping weight and may be close to featuring for the club in the premiership. He apparently acquired some blubber during his honeymoon in the off-season.

Blackpool have signed Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Kingson on a one year contract with an option for a additional year. Kingson had previously spent time at Birmingham and most recently Wigan. Blackpool have also signed Australia international David Carney from FC Twenty on a one year deal just at the end of the transfer window. Leicester City striker DJ Campbell also signs. Campbell was with Blackpool on loan last season and helped the club gain promotion to the Premiership. England Under-19 international winger Matt Phillips has signed from Wycombe.

Newcastle United vs Blackpool Match Report

The Seasiders stunned the Magpies at St. James Park on Saturday with goals from Charlie Adam and new signing DJ Campbell.

Newcastle came close in the 25th minute when defender Mike Williamson got on the end of a Joey Barton free kick but Williamson’s shot came off the post.

Blackpool took the lead just before half time when Alan Smith brought down Luke Varney in the box. Charlie Adam converted the spot kick to give the visitors an unexpected lead going into the second half.

Pressure from the Newcastle forwards brought the best out of Blackpool keeper Matthew Gilks, who made fine saves off Andy Carroll and Peter Lovenkrands and an ascendant Newcastle found themselves frustrated time and again.

Blackpool sealed the three points when DJ Campbell, who transferred in from Leicester City just as the transfer window was closing, got a debut goal when he took a pass from Adam and placed his shot inside the far post.

The Seasiders must be feeling sunny as they have won two out of four matches now and currently hold a surprising fourth place in the Premier League.
