Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Newcastle United Match Preview
Wolves came from behind last weekend to share the points in a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake got the goal but it was new boy Adlene Guedioura who came on as a sub and made the goal possible with a hearty midfield challenge that robbed Johnny Heitinga of the ball and set up the move that made the draw possible.
Manager Mick McCarthy and his squad have gotten off to a decent start with four points from their first two EPL matches of the season.
More good news for Wolves: they’ve agreed to a season long loan for Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne, his third loan to Wolves.
In Carling Cup action this week Wolves beat League Two outfit Southend United 2-1 although they needed extra time to do so and were fortunate to get the victory over the resilient Shrimpers.
Newcastle shocked Aston Villa and the Premier League last weekend with their 6-0 victory over Villa at St. James’ Park. Joey Barton opened the scoring for the home side,
Kevin Nolan scored two and local boy Andy Carroll piled the misery on Villa by getting a hat trick, his third goal coming in stoppage time.
On the heels of their victory over Villa Newcastle announced the signing of Ivory Coast international midfielder Cheik Tiote from Dutch outfit FC Twente.
A 3-2 Carling Cup win over Accrington Stanley midweek added a feather to the Magpies’ cap this week.
It’s not all rosy for the Geordies, though. Defender Steven Taylor is unable to agree to terms for higher wages from the club and has been put up for sale as a result. Manager Chris Hughton, however, wants Taylor to stay and is hopeful that a deal can be done.

Wolves got out to a lead just before half time when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored off a ball passed by Jelle van Damme.
The Magpies’ equalizer came off a header from Andy Carroll, his fourth goal in two games. Carroll is proving to be a handy fellow in front of goal.
Such was the strength of emotion in the match that referee Stuart Attwell saw fit to issue 12 bookings, all yellow.
Can’t wait for the return match at St. James’ Park!
