San Lorenzo vs Newell's Old Boys Match Preview
One of this year's strongest teams will travel this week to Almagro to visit San Lorenzo, who will be for the last time under Sebastian Mendez's command, for it's already been made public Ramon Diaz will assume the command of the Santos' cruise after South Africa, and this will be Mendez's last opportunity to make things right by retaining the three points in its own home. Having claimed the three points the last time these two teams faced each other the Cuervos will have to think on a defensive formation to control Newell's creativity, and the numbers do mother; while San Lorenzo received only 20 goals in the tournament, they managed to score only 14, and this is the main reason why the team has been chained to the basement the whole competition. Three consecutive defeats have completely destroyed team's self-confidence, even though playing at their own stadium the Cuervos might show they're ready to fly high once again. Diego Moreno and Emiliano Alfaro's return to the squad will give some fresh blood to Cuervos' mid field playing, at a moment of utmost importance against one of this league's deadliest formations.
Roberto Sensini's season could have hardly been any better, and the only stain of last year's performance (losing the title after being defeated by the Cuervos in the last match) could be washed away by taking advantage of the fragile moment of Mendez's team, unable to escape from the bottom of the positions table in the whole tournament. Having obtained 13 of the last 15 possible points, last week's loose victory 6-0 against Gimnasia injected the players with a level of confidence yet unseen, and this is the condition that's showing the Lepra as the candidate to claim the three points. Nahuel Roselli and Rodrigo Sperdutti will be responsible for taking the ball to Joaquin Boghossian, an ogre recently awaken and ready to lean the game on the Lepra side thanks to his sheer efficiency. Only one team will be able to leave the Nuevo Gasometro with a smile upon its face, who will it be?
