Claudio Borghi and Tolo Gallego managed to grow their squads during the tournament and them both are hot on Estudiantes' heels. As there are only six points in play before this tournament is over, it's clear this will be an early final for the Clausura, unless Estudiantes defeats Rosario Central and is crowned champion before this match is held. Ismael Sosa and Nestor Silvera, top strikers for both teams might be missing this match, and thus the strategy will weight more than the individual capabilities of two teams that have been showing what they're capable of during the whole year. Argentinos was defeated only two times in the tournament, and this week the Diego Armando Maradona might be lit with the light of hopes upon a victory.
Argentinos' has been growing tougher and stronger during the last years, but Gabriel Hauche's departure to Racing early left a space Claudio Borghi was rapidly able to fill with Ismael Sosa and Nicolas Pavlovich, two big revelations that have granted Argentinos the second position.
But the situation will be tougher than always this time, for Sosa won't be able to perform against its former team. It looks like Nicolas Pavlovich will be responsible for leading its team's offensive, a task in which he excelled during the first part of the tournament.
Another player that will return to the squad will be Juan Sabia, unable to perform during the last month and determined to make up for the lost time stopping one of this league's most aggressive teams. Nicolas Peric will be responsible for keeping Argentinos' goal shut, a difficult task against Dario Gandin, Ignacio Piatti and the rest of the Rojos.
Jose Luis Calderon will be the most experienced of the 22 players and his weight in the offensive will probably offer Argentinos the edge on the offense and feed their dreams of bagging the full scoring.
Independiente lost its path for the title a few weeks ago and Americo Gallego has yet been unable to recover the way to the top, which now stands five points above their head. Diablos' building is slowly falling apart, and the falling pieces are sounding louder and louder in Avellaneda.
The debris has not fallen only over Gallego's head. Dario Gandin, who was one of Independiente's main gunners during the first half of the tournament, has been shadowed by Federico González during week's training, who will be joining Nestor Silvera in the offensive. Luciano Vella's return will strengthen the back line, taking Julian Velazquez place.
A third surprise will take place in Rojos' formation, for Federico Mancuello will be watching this match from the bench; Independiente need to find new answers to its regular problems in the midfield, and for that matter Hernan Fredes will offer his finesse to break Bichitos' tough defense.
Independiente lost its last match while Argentinos won its last two games. Estudiantes will be looking forward to this match in which the top will shake, who will get it to the top by Monday?
118 times Independiente and Argentinos faced each other, with the lead on Rojos' hands with 53 victories over 32 for Claudio Borghi's squad. At the Diego Armando Maradona Independiente claimed 22 times the victory over 19 for Argentinos. This will be Borghi's chance to even the score, will he succeed on such task?
