Bordeaux vs Olympiacos Match Preview
Olympiakos 0-1 defeat to Bordeaux at home in the first leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie has left them with a Herculean labor. They must now go to the Stade Jacques Chaban Delmas on Wednesday and win.
Olympiakos manager Bozidar Bandovic felt his team should have gotten more out of the match. \\\"We played well, creating a lot of chances,\\\" said Bandovic, \\\"If we play like that in other matches, we will have a chance … in the Champions League.”
Perhaps, but surely the task in front of the Greeks must seem a little like climbing Mount Olympus.
In the group stage of the competition Bordeaux won all three of their home games. Two of those wins came against Titans of European football: Juventus and Bayern Munich.
With just one win in five league games, Bordeaux’s recent form has been less than stellar. They are, however, on top of the French Ligue 1 table. More importantly, however, Bordeaux has won all of their last six Champions League matches.
By way of contrast, away wins for Olympiakos in the Champions League are as elusive as the Siren song. They failed to score at all in their three away Group H games.
Their league form is a little better, but not much. They have dropped to third in the Greek Super League, and in their last five games they have produced just one win and only five goals.
Despite Bandovic’s optimism he had better find a way for his team to produce goals at Bordeaux on Wednesday night or Olympiakos will find themselves the featured act in their own Greek tragedy.
