Honduras – Faking Or Feeling Impotence?Honduras have given up the chase to reach the knock-out stages of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Although they stand a mathematical chance of surviving the undecided section that constitutes Group H, Coach Reynaldo Rueda has branded tonight’s game against Switzerland as a match of honor. Saddened by Los Catrachos’ two defeats on the trot which have put their campaign in jeopardy, the boss stated:
“We would like to score three goals [and have a chance of reaching the knockout phase], but we also depend on the outcome of the Chile vs Spain encounter. I believe this match [against Switzerland] is a match of honor, one for our dignity.
“Actually, our dream was to come here [in South Africa] and play better. So far, we haven’t done very well. We haven’t found our form in a way or another. We haven’t played at a high level.”
But who knows if Reynaldo Rueda isn’t playing mind games by faking disappointment and hiding confidence and desire from Honduras’ Swiss counterparts? After all, this technique was surely taken by Switzerland Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and it proved to be a success. Just remember how Ottmar Hitzfeld had given great praises to the Spanish and even dared to doubt the credibility of his own players. In the end, Switzerland charmed Spain to create the first big upset of the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament.

Switzerland’s goal scoring record has been poor with only three goals netted during their last seven games. But tonight against Honduras, they will have to score to get the win they so badly dream of having. Captain Alexander Frei is confident that his side can produce the right result.
“We practice very hard and we score goals in our training units too. Against Greece in the qualifiers, we scored two goals both home and away. So, I think we have a very good point to believe that we can score two goals tomorrow.
“We conceded a little amount of goals over the past qualification round and we can score a lot of goals also. The thing is that we just have to make sure we do score and that we feel comfortable about that.
“All the players are burning because they want to get the second win. They want to give a sensational performance tomorrow for us to reach the last 16 with glory.”
Indeed, the most goals scored factor could decide the future of the teams in Group H. Ahead of tonight’s encounters, the table looks this way:
Chile – 6 points, +2
Spain – 3 points, +1
Switzerland – 3 points, +0
Honduras – 0 point, -3
So Honduras must win at all cost if they want to qualify. The least result they can afford to have is a 3-goal margin victory over Switzerland. In the meantime, they will have to hope that Chile defeats Spain by a 2-goal margin at least.
As for Switzerland, a draw will suit them if Spain lose to Chile. Now if Spain beat the Chileans, then the Swiss will need to beat Honduras by nothing less than a 1-goal margin more than the result Spain will clinch. In case tonight’s games all end in a draw, then Switzerland and Honduras will have to pack their bags and go home.
