Korea Republic - Greece Live Commentary

' That'll do us for this afternoon then - match report to follow shortly. Thank you for joining me this afternoon.
' As it stands, Korea top the group - but Argentina and Nigeria are about to get underway shortly, so the elation maybe short lived. A crucial win nonetheless, as it helps them in the battle for second place, which will no doubt be a toss up between themselves and Nigerians. It will be difficult for Greece to recover from this one - they looked devoid of attacking flair today.
' It's all over then, a vital victory for South Korea, who looked very good today. Greece were very poor and lacked the ideas needed to unlock their well drilled opponents. We'll leave it there then, stick around for match report and reaction very shortly. Hope you enjoyed the game.
90+2' There goes the final whistle, and Korea have secured victory!
90+' Two minutes added time to be played.
90' Jae-Sung Kim comes on for Korea, their last change, in place of Chung-Yong Lee.
89' Game labouring toward a conclusion now. Now more chances to report at the moment.
88' Chu-Young Park departs in place of Seung-Youl Lee.
86' More chances for Korea, forcing last ditch defending from Greece. Chu-Young is first denied by a sprawling, last ditch tackle, before Tzorvas turns the follow up shot behind for a corner.
85' Kapetanos tries crossing for the unmarked Gekas, but the front man can't connect.
83' Greece probing but Korea have shut up shop - they aren't prepared to let this lead slip.
81' Chu-Young fashions an effort of his own, turning and forcing Tzorvas into a smart save. Korea corner.
80' Greece get a shot on target. Gekas controls the ball superbly on the edge of the box and swivels, firing in a volley at Jung but the keeper sticks out a strong hand to make an excellent save, turning the shot over the bar.
79' Cha charges down the right but is promptly stopped by Torosidis firm challenge.
78' Lovely stuff from Korea, spraying the ball from side to side such is the ease of their play. Very pleasing on the eye.
76' Deflected effort off Katsouranis wins Greece a corner.Torosidis delivers the kick but Korea defend superbly and head away.
75' Ki leaves the fray, in place for the veteran Nam-Il Kim.
73' Greece keeping the ball a bit better now, they need a goal quickly to try and salvage something.
71' Better from Greece, Salpingidis again in the thick of it. Greece win a corner after a dangerous low cross is expertly cut out by the Korean back line. No change available from the set piece, though and the ball is cleared.
70' Salpingidis has just lashed one over the bar in Greece's best move of the match. Good play down the left sees the ball pulled back for the substitute front men, however he swings a wild left boot at it to clear the posts.
68' Tzorvas has had plenty to do this afternoon, so he won't appreciate a pass back that nearly evades him and goes into his own net! Keeper gets a foot on it, though, and hastily clears.
67' Gekas come within a sniff of goal, controlling a long ball and trying an ambitious overhead kick. It goes over and that is the closest Greece have come today.
66' Korea still doing all the pressing, although admittedly they have eased off the gas somewhat. Even they can sense Greece are very unlikely to get back into it. Unless...
64' Korea have just had a corner that went harmlessly long, but Greece had all of their players back to defend it.
63' Cha sends over a dream of a cross from the right, in between the centre backs, with pace, and Chu-Young park connects. However, he puts it over with the goal gaping - would have been a lovely goal had the striker got it on target.
62' Gekas nearly nips in behind the Korean defence to latch onto a long ball, but it runs too long and Jung collects.
61' Half an hour left for Greece to try and salvage something.
60' A third and final swop for Greece. Charisteas departs in place off Kapetanos, a striker.
58' Samaras leaves the pitch, Salpingidis comes on in Greece's second change.
57' Seitaridis shows a clean pair of heels to evade the challenges of three Korean defenders, however his cross is met by no-one in the penalty area.
56' Charisteas treis jumping in on Jung to challenge a high ball, but the keeper shows a clean pair of hands to pluck it out of the sky.
55' Torosidis is yellow carded for a foul.
55' Korea work incredibly hard in the moments they don't have the ball, wasting no time in winning possession back.
53' That was the last thing Greece needed - they've shown little in the way of improvement since the start of this second half. They really need to shake things up if they are to get back into the match.
53' It's curtains for Greece, who shoot themselves in the foot again. A simple square ball across the defence is miscontrolled by Vyntra and Ji-Sung Park scampers clear of the Greek defenders to slot past the sprawling Tzorvas. 2-0 Korea.
52' GOAL! 2-0 KOREA!
50' Korea enjoying having the ball, under no pressure from Greece.
49' Young-Pyo Lee is sent to the turf by Charisteas in a cynical challenge. The Greek stand-in skipper left his knee and elbow in on the defender as he up-ended him.
47' Lee-Chung Yong tries a hit from outside the box but is blocked. Twice now Greece have had the ball but have been pipped by their opponents, working hard to regain possession.
46' Young-Pyo Lee carries the ball 30 yards down the left flank but is eventually stopped, and that's the difference between the two sides - Korea are very progressive and attacking, their doing all the running today.
45' We're back underway then and Greece have removed their captain. Is Otto Rehhagel making an example of the midfielder?
45' Karagounis, the captain, is off. Patsatzoglou comes on for Greece.
' "Despite reports of the new World Cup football moving around in the air a lot; troubling keepers, still not seen too many shots from outside the 18-yard box! Why do you think this is, Danny? Nerves? Both games I've watched so far have been very cagey and cautious." Ben Gaunt. I think you might be right, Ben - it seems in the opening matches the teams are scared of losing and would opt for a point, rather than go for all three. In today's game, Greece are a very attritional and defensive unit - it's hard for them to be creative with the ball in open play. Korea, on the other hand, look threatening on the break, but unless they take their chances then Otto Rehhagel's team can always nick a goal.
' Fancy a flutter during the half-time interval? Greece are rank outsiders at 10/1, Korea 1/3 favourites. For a draw, 14/5 is the return. If you think the score will remain the same, 2/1 is on offer. See for more.
45' Half-time, no minutes added on - it's 1-0 to South Korea at the half way stage.
44' Nervy moment for Jung as he fumbles a routine cross. Fortunately for him, the Greek cavelry had moved beyond the ball and the stopper can collect at the second attempt.
43' Bit of trouble here in the Korean defence as they struggle to clear Samaras' centre from wide left. Not even Cho's acrobatic diving header could do the job.
41' Chu-Young gets space in behind the Greek midfield, turns and lashes a shot over the bar. Ball was a good few yards over the top, but Tzorvas expresses concern at the way the Korean schemer was given so much time and space.
39' Not a great deal happening at the moment in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium - neither side offering much in the way of goal mouth action. Will keep you posted in the event we do see something before the interval.
37' Greece free-kick, which is played short, quite unusually. Korea concede another and this time Vyntra tries tossing it into the box, however he can't beat the first defender.
36' Korea working the ball out to Cha after a succession of passes, but the right back can't get his cross off. Still, they come back and keep hold of possession.
35' Seitaridis gets room in behind and tries an ambitious cross from very wide and deep, only to see it run out for a goal kick.
34' Papadopoulos leaps highest to win an asbolutely massive header - his team have been lacking that means of command in this first half. Greece labouring toward half-time where they can regroup.
33' Karagounis takes the kick in the most unusual fashion - a style of scuffed chip, with the inside of his boot. Goes to the near post, anyway, and is promptly cleared.
32' Greece win another set play, they need to make the most of these opportunities.
' All the money was for the South Koreans before the kick off and it's continued throughout the first half. We've seen some big bets on them in running to claim the win. Ji Sung Park is proving popular to score the next goal at 12/1.
29' Replays showing a bit of frustration in the Greek backline -Tzorvas exchanged a few choice words with Vyntra after the keeper had saved his defender from embarrassment.
27' Tzorvas has just kept his side in the match - the keeper stands up brilliantly to deny the on-rushing Yeom, who had peeled away from the Greek backline. It was so close to being 2-0 there and Greece would have been dead and buried, on this evidence at least.
26' Greece are second to everything, especially in the air. Somehow, they are able to stumble forward and win a throw deep in Korea's half.
25' Ji-Sung Park is denied thanks to a bizarre decision - he won his header over the full back fairly and rampages toward goal, but the ref blows his whistle for a foul. Nothing wrong it.
24' Neat and tidy from Korea, they look very comfortable in possession. Greece, on the contrary, applying no pressure.
23' The break nearly allows Jung-Woo to connect, however he scuffs it horribly wide from a decent position.
22' Jung-Soo concedes a corner, under no pressure at all. Jung comes a long way to punch and gets a good connection, allowing his team to clear.
20' Twenty minutes in then and Korea leading and looking very comfortable. Aside from that early scare, they've remained untroubled.
18' Torosidis has possession and looks up to his midfield to find no-on showing. Ball goes long and Charisteas controls in nearly Ddennis Bergkamp-like fashion, but it's not quite to be - the front man dithers and crosses poorly for Samaras. Korea clear.
16' Cho sticks to his defensive duties to cut out a threatening cross from the Greece right. Two opponents were lurking behind the defender, so that's well played.
15' Nice play from the Koreans is nearly rewarded with a clear run on goal, however offside is awarded against Chung-Yong Lee.
14' Koreans appealing for a penalty as Chu-Young escapes round the back of the Greece defence. The midfielder is primed to shoot before being caught by the backtracking Torosidis. Ref isn't interested and the game continues.
13' Chaos in the Greece box. A long ball is nodded down by Sung-Yong Ki and neither keeper nor defender take command of the loose ball. It trickles across the goal and thankfully for Greece no other Korean striker is lurking to finish it off.
12' Samaras is looking lively but he fouls Cha as he tries to go round him. Greece's hopes could rest on the Celtic man's shoulders.
11' Greece are trying to find a way forward but long balls aren't the best option - possession ceded needlessly by the midfield.
10' The Greece defence were all over the place for that Korea goal - the ball sailed over four of their heads before Jung-Soo Lee finished. The Koreans celebrated widly after taking the lead, their fans are making a fantastic noise.
8' Greece have a chance for an immediate response from a corner, which is palmed away by Jung in the Korea goal.
7' Greece are caught napping from a fee-kick on this occasion and they have been punished in the worst way imaginable. Young-Pyo is bundled to the floor and Korea are awarded a free-kick from the wide left corner. It's whipped into the box, and an unmarked Jung-Soo Lee is on hand to convert at the back post.
5' Greece are causing problems from set-plays. Samaras is brought down wide on the left and a free-kick is delivered, which Korea struggle to deal with as it bobbles around the box. Offside ruled against Gekas, though, and they clear their lines.
4' Cha lashes in a shot from the right back position, 30 yards from goal, but his effort is blocked by Vyntra.
3' Chance for Greece, Torosidis finds the ball bouncing at his feet but he can't direct his instinctive effort on target. Goes just wide and Korea are afforded a let off in these early stages.
2' Samaras works a yard or two and cross, looking for Gekas. Cho heads away for a corner, early danger.
1' Korea see spray the ball around neatly in the first few moments, making the most of the lush, carpet like surface on offer.
0' South Korea get us underway.
' The referee for today's game is Michael Hester, who hails from New Zealand.
' National anthems are being sung as we speak, kick-off fast approaching.
' Let's make sense of the teams. South Korea are operating with a lone striker in the form of Chu-Young Park and have opted for a five-man midfield. Ki will provide the support to the front man ploughing the furrow.Greece, meanwhile, have gone for an all-out attack, playing with three forwards. Angelos Charisteas, Georgios Samaras and Fanis Gekas will take the game to the the Taeguk Warriors.
' Greece: Tzorvas, Torosidis, Papadopoulos, Vyntra, Seitaridis, Samaras, Tziolis, Katsouranis, Karagounis, Charisteas, Gekas. Subs: Chalkias, Patsatzoglou, Spyropoulos, Moras, Salpingidis, Kyrgiakos, Ninis, Papastathopoulos, Kapetanos, Malezas, Prittas, Sifakis.
' South Korea: Jung, Cha, Cho, Jung-Soo Lee, Young-Pyo Lee, Chung-Yong Lee, Ki, Jung-Woo Kim, Ji-Sung Park, Chu-Young Park, Yeom. Subs: Woon-Jae Lee, Oh, Hyung-il Kim, Nam-Il Kim, Bo-Kyung Kim, Ahn, Seung-Youl Lee, Jae-Sung Kim, Dong-Jin Kim, Dong-Gook Lee, Kang, Young-Kwang Kim.
' Here are the line-ups for the match:
' Needless to point that South Korea, on their own patch, made the semi-finals in 2002. For Greece, this is their first World Cup finals appearance since 1994, where they finished bottom of their group in the United States.
' Last night's encounter between Uruguay and France was hardly a classic, so let's hope we get a bit more excitement here today. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is the venue for this one, and you couldn't ask for a better setting - fingers crossed the football on show matches the arena. South Korea and Greece maybe looked down on as light weighs in this tournament, but don't write them off - the Koreans have Premier League quality (past and present) players in their ranks, the most high profile of which is Manchester United star Ji-Sung Park. Greece, meanwhile, know how to spring a surprise - they won the European Championships in 2004 after all!
' Live updates will appear here from 1230 BST...
