Rubin Kazan vs Barcelona Match Preview

Angela Asante, Oct 30th 2009
The time for the revenge seems to have come at the perfect time, and indubitably, there is a lot to expect from Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match between Rubin Kazan and FC Barcelona.

Barca brilliantly bounced back from a weak form that saw them go two games without a win in the league and the Champions League, but another challenge is still awaiting them away from home.

Barcelona's Coach Pep Guardiola shouting at his players during his Champions Legue's game against Rubin Kazan at the Camp NouThe First Leg

One could expect this game to be dominated by the Catalans, bearing in mind that Barcelona have successfully regained their shape; yet, it is the first leg’s story which seems to make the excitement ahead of this game huge.

Barcelona were stunned by 2 goals to 1 in their own stadium several days ago by the Russian side Rubin Kazan, and unquestionably, it was a match the home side could clearly have turned into their favor. Nevertheless, mistakes in the defense, as well as lack of precision in front of goal cost them an upset, as they went on to miss another 3 precious points, which could have extended their lead at the top of table with 7 good points.

The Revenge

This second leg however will not be taking for granted by the European defending champions. Their manager Pep Guardiola has already made it clear that winning all six possible cups this season was his target, adding that success was built trough each and every game his side played.

Surely, he didn’t mean to leave out his second leg encounter against the former Russian Premier League title holders Rubin Kazan.

Consequently, it is the squad and the techniques he chooses ahead of the challenge, which will show how willing he is to correct his side’s numerous and needless mistakes in the first leg encounter at the Camp Nou.

Players To Look Out For

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently among Barcelona’s best scorers this season; nevertheless, there is no doubt that his skills emerge more often in the league than in the UEFA Champions League. His match against Rubin Kazan in Russia on Wednesday will therefore be his chance to stamp once again on the hosts.

Lionel Messi will also look to be at his best in other to maintain the favor of Barcelona fans; and having failed to convert an easy chance to help his side survive in the first leg, Messi is very much likely to be the man to silence the home crowd on Wednesday.
