Brazil vs Venezuela Match Preview

Oct 12th 2009
For two teams with their fates already sealed, pride will be fought for as Venezuela travel to Campo Grande, Brazil for one of their toughest tests yet.

A ticket for Brazil, reconstruction for Venezuela

Having already qualified for South Africa 2010, Brazil will be playing to win regardless of their success thusfar. They come from a 2-1 loss in Bolivia, where the altitude proved to be a difficult task for them.

Venezuela unfortunately met their end this weekend when they lost to Paraguay at home 1-2. Of their past 5 games, this was their only loss and their eyes were set on South Africa.

Now, Venezuela must pick up the pieces and play for pride. A win away in Brazil would be huge for their countrymen and a good start at thinking about the next FIFA World Cup in 2014 in Brazil.

With their minds on 2014

Still the only South American nation not to ever have reached the FIFA World Cup, Venezuela will have to set their new goal to Brazil 2014.

Coach Cesar Farias and the vinotinto continue to have better  in world cup qualifying, with this edition being a realistic chance for them until this weekend.

Look for the all-time leading Venezuelan goalscorer, Giancarlo Maldonado (Xerez), to give the Brazilian defense a tough time along with captain Juan Arango (Borussia Mönchengladbach) at the attacking midfield role.

Brazil want the top spot

With the recent loss in La Paz, Bolivia, Brazil gave up the sole position of the top spot of the COMNEBOL qualifying group, now sharing it with Paraguay at 33 points each.

Coach Dunga left out many big names for the tough game in La Paz due to injuries, but many of them will be ready to play in front of the home crowd.

International star Kaká (Real Madrid) should be ready to go from his recent injury and should propel the midfield in setting up a strong attack. Two other additions that were left out on Sunday include forward Luis Fabiano (Sevilla) and midfielder Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos).
