Team NewsGareth Barry has a knock to deal with for Manchester City. Vincent Kompany has a shin injury but could return for this clash. Micah Richards has a cartilage knee injury to deal with. For Chelsea, the only absentee is long term injury victim Oriol Romeu.
Chelsea just about managed to sneak past Sparta Prague in the Europa League. Extra time was seconds away when Chelsea rescued the tie with an equalizer from Eden Hazard. The London side has not been excellent by any means this season. Their opponents, Manchester City, were going through a rough patch until they beat Leeds 4-0. Roberto Mancini’s job could be on the line if City does not start to actually challenge United for the title soon.
As far as style is concerned, the previous meeting between the two was rather boring. Rafael Benitez’s Chelsea was rather pragmatic. They sat back and looked to not concede. City almost seemed to be the home team. Chelsea has played wonderfully away from home under Benitez at times. This time, perhaps due to being away from home, Chelsea might be more adventurous.
