England vs Hungary Match Preview

Angela Asante, Aug 10th 2010
For the first time since suffering a controversial but humiliating 4-1 defeat to continental rivals Germany in the Last 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, England’s national football team player will take the field.

England fans booing. They will entertain Hungary at the Wembley Stadium in an atmosphere which promises to be frustrating… thanks to likely boos from English supporters.

England had a really nice run in terms of results during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. But the momentum they built during that period counted for nothing in South Africa. The Three Lions’ adventure was a perfect nightmare.

Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard… the list of top rated English Premier League stars is long; the England team is actually a star-studded side aside from the fact that they are yet to find a top first choice keeper.

Either way, in spite of all the names that magnify Fabio Capello’s squad, the Three Lions are far from satisfying the country’s supporters. As they prepare for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers, England have a lot to prove and to improve. English fans are not prepared to be exposed for yet another time to 90 minutes of unconvincing football, especially after enjoying quality performances at the same venue during last Sunday’s Community Shield encounter.

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard is mentally ready ahead of England’s international friendly match against Hungary. He declared:

“I expect a mixed reaction, and I’m sure there will be boos at times. We have to deal with that, and have to be men, and take it on the chin.

“We have to get on with that and hopefully with time, we can show them we are a good team… that there is togetherness there, and that we are desperate to make them happy in future.”

Two players that won’t feature against Hungary are goalkeeper Paul Robinson and Manchester United defender Wes Brown. The pair announced their retirement from international football last weekend only to provoke rumors over some England players’ thoughts against Coach Fabio Capello.

England’s squad is meant to take a serious change as the FA is keen to turn things around following the team’s poor showing in South Africa. After the withdrawal of Darren Bent through injury, one player who is set to come under the spotlight is Fulham striker Bobby Zamora. He will be experiencing his first cap for England’s senior national team. Read More Here

As for Hungary, preparing to forget the disappointment of missing out on the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals starts against England. With Koeman out and Egervari in as Hungary's new coach, the 32nd ranked nation in the FIFA Coca Cola Rankings are looking forward to a brighter future ahead of the 2012 European Championship.
