Gianluigi Buffon made history on Sunday as the first player to win nine Serie A titles. LiveSoccerTV.com takes a look at the long-serving Juventus shot-stopper's achievements over his glittering career to date.

Last Sunday, Juventus failed to beat Roma, while Napoli beat Sampdoria 2-0.

However, it meant nothing, as Juventus were crowned champions of Italy for the seventh straight time. And in doing so, it meant that skipper Gianluigi Buffon made history as the first player to win nine Scudetti. If one includes the two that were stripped from the Bianconeri during the Calciopoli scandal, then he has won 11 titles during his time with La Vecchia Signora.

This past Thursday, the 40-year-old shot-stopper announced that Juve's upcoming game with Hellas Verona will be his last with the Bianconeri. It was hardly surprising, but will still be an emotional day for not just Juventus fans, but for anyone who has grown up watching Serie A. For many calcio fans, Buffon has been Italy's no. 1 for as long as they can remember, and it's hard to imagine a day without him between the posts.

Even though he unfortunately never won the Champions League - through no fault of his own - he's still enjoyed one of the most successful careers any player can aspire to, including winning a World Cup (which is something obviously not every player does in his career, not even those with numerous Ballon d'Ors to their names).

As such, ahead of his final game with Juventus, here's an overview of what arguably makes him one of the greatest talents ever to don the shot-stopper's jersey: his saves. Obviously, for the sake of time and space, we couldn't cover them all, but we've decided to focus on the most notable in terms of how they defined his career and the magnitude of the game.

So, without further ado, among them include:

1. November 19, 1995: A star is born

On that date, 17-year-old Gigi Buffon made his Serie A debut against none other than AC Milan. If that wasn't intimidating enough, this was the AC Milan side featuring legendary icons like Roberto Baggio and George Weah.

No worries, though, for the lanky teenager. Not only did Parma manage to grind out a point, but Buffon earned himself plaudits for his matured performance on the day, pulling off save after save to deny both Baggio and Weah, who to date is the only African player to win the Ballon d'Or.

2. May 14, 2003: Ensured Juve's passage to the UCL final

Here's an interesting piece of history: Current Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was playing for Real Madrid at the time after making the switch from Juventus when Buffon saved Luis Figo's penalty during the second leg, thus denying the Spanish side, who were then the reigning champs a chance back into the contest. The Bianconeri went on to win that semi-finals tie in Turin and face Milan in an all-Italian UCL final.

Unfortunately, they would go on to lose on penalties. Flash-forward 15 years later, and Buffon would be on the losing side as Juventus were beaten by a Real Madrid side led by Zidane in the quarter-finals of this year's Champions League under rather controversial circumstances.

3. July 9, 2006: Keeping things even against France

Buffon was again pitted versus ex-teammate Zidane in 2006. This time, the venue was none other than the World Cup final, and he pulled off a great save to keep the score-line level at 1-1. Zidane had scored to put Les Bleus ahead via a penalty, only for Marco Materazzi to equalize shortly after, and had Buffon not stopped Zidane's later effort, who knows what the outcome would have been?

In any case, below are ten of those notable saves in a special highlights reel. Which of them is your favorite? And how many of them can you recognize personally?
