La Albiceleste needs to end their 24-year drought in the World Cup, and they need Messi fully fit to do so.

Perhaps looking out after their interests, the Argentinean Football Association (AFA), will try to keep Messi healthy and fit for the 2018 World Cup.

Part of the plan they put together includes a bizarre request from the Argentine execs to their Barcelona counterparts: having Lionel Messi playing less games.

Speaking to TyC Sports, AFA's president Claudio Tapia will urge Los Blaugranas to keep Messi off the pitch as often as possible, so he can lead La Albiceleste to their first major trophy since the 1993 Copa América.

"I hope every player gets to the World Cup in their current form. What Aguero is doing right now is massive, and well, Lionel Messi is always on his top game. That's what counts for our staff and coaches. We spke with Messi, and we want him to sit out as many games as possible with Barcelona," Tapia stated.

Messi has played 32 games this season, with only three of those appearances coming as a sub. He's scored 26 goals in all competitions, leading Barcelona to what has been an almost perfect season.

Tapia's plan to keep Messi healthy and in good form also includes leaving "La Pulga" out of the next FIFA international break, where La Albiceleste scheduled games Italy and Spain.
