Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric were awarded the trophies for best striker, defender and midfielder in last season's edition.

Contrary to what happened in previous years, UEFA decided to give away the positional awards while the UEFA Champions League draw was taking place.

The first recipient of an award was Gianluigi Buffon, the most veteran goalkeeper to receive the award. Buffon admitted that winning the UEFA Champions League is almost an obsession to him.

Next, Sergio Ramos collected the first award for Los Blancos. The defender revealed his desire to replicate history by leading the Spanish giants to a third straight UCL title.

UEFA's board elected Luka Modric as the best midfielder in the competition. The Croatian midfielder had the highest rate of take-ons for any midfielder last season, and he established himself as the first player from his country to win this award.

The last recipient of an individual award was Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace secured his spot by becoming the competitión's top scorer for a third straigh season. Added to that, reaching the 100th goal mark was reason enough to give him the award.
