Juventus finally clinch the Scudetto, whilst Roma and Napoli continue to scrap for second place. Meanwhile, all is not lost in Crotone's hopes for survival. LiveSoccerTV.com looks at some of the talking points from this weekend's action.

For Juventus, this season's Scudetto race was not a matter of if, but when. The Bianconeri have been largely unstoppable all term and are the only team to have won the Scudetto five times on two different occasions. And on Sunday, they made it an unprecedented sixth by earning a comfortable 3-0 win over Crotone.

Roma may have tried to spoil their party by beating La Vecchia Signora 3-1 in the previous round, but even the most ardent Giallorossi supporter surely knew that nothing was going to stop the Turin giants from earning a well-deserved sixth straight Scudetto. So whilst that is already decided, there is still plenty to play for on matchday 38. Let's have a look at what happened across Italy in the penultimate round of action.

1. Well, that's a nice way to celebrate your birthday!

Mario Mandzukic netted the opener for Juve against Crotone on Sunday, which just so happened to be the Croatian international's 31st birthday. In doing so, Mandzukic became the first Juventus player to score on his birthday since Alessandro Del Piero did so on November 9, 2008 (his 34th birthday).

Nice way to celebrate your birthday, eh?

2. Yet another milestone for a footballing icon

As we mentioned earlier, Juventus are the first Serie A side to win six straight Scudetti. And in achieving this, La Vecchia Signora has helped a legend to make history:

Juve fans (and calcio supporters in general) will be hoping to see Buffon finally win the Champions League, as it's the one major title that continues to elude the 39-year-old icon.

3. In some highly esteemed company

It goes without saying that Massimiliano Allegri has been nothing short of a resounding success for the Bianconeri. The ex-Milan boss has helped guide La Vecchia Signora to their second Champions League final in just three years - something that several of his predecessors were unable to do.

Under his leadership, Juventus are the first team to win three consecutive Coppa Italia titles. Sunday's Scudetto win also has helped to elevate him into some highly esteemed company:

And to think that some Juventus supporters actually were upset when Allegri was hired in the summer of 2014...

4. A season to forget for Fiorentina

Juventus are certainly having a season to remember. The same cannot be said, however, about other teams in Serie A. Fiorentina is a prime example of that. The Viola have had an awful campaign and are set to miss out on a Europa League spot. Over the weekend, they suffered yet another setback, this time against Napoli, and in doing so, matched a very unwanted precedent:

5. Goals galore...in a league historically known for its defense

Gone are the days of one goal and done.  Yes, there have been some 1-0 results, but overall, this season has seen way more goals across Serie A. The top four sides have all scored over 70 goals each: Juventus (75), Roma (87), Napoli (90), and Lazio (73). That may not seem like much, but Italian football is known for its tough defense. And if one were to look at LaLiga for instance, one would find that only two teams have scored more than 70. In Ligue 1, only three sides have surpassed 70 goals (PSG, Lyon, and champions Monaco).

In any case, with eight, nine, and even ten goal thrillers taking place, it's no surprise that the top scorers list features six players who have scored 20-plus goals. It is set to be a close race for the Capocannoniere prize, but here's a very interesting stat indeed:

How the race for the Capocannoniere is shaping up...

At the start of the season, no one certainly would have expected Napoli's Dries Mertens to be in the running for the Capocannoniere title. After all, the Belgian international is a midfielder! But flash-forward 37 rounds later, and he is one of the major challengers to Roma's Edin Dzeko for the coveted Capocannoniere prize.
