The likes of Suarez, Mbappe, and Griezmann will be on the pitch, but it might not be an exciting game to watch.

Friday sees the World Cup return, and with it comes two highly-anticipated quarter-final clashes. Brazil takes on Belgium in the later game in what should be a free-flowing attacking tie, but the same cannot be said for the earlier kick-off: Uruguay vs France.

While Les Bleus will likely throw everything in the hope of scoring tons of goals, La Celeste's pragmatic approach to football means defending deep and not over-committing in the attack. This has worked well for the South Americans, as they goal Pepe scored in Uruguay's 2-1 win over Portugal was the only time Oscar Tabarez's men conceded in 2018.

However, this approach is not always pleasing to watch. Furthermore, the fact that this clash has a history of being a tight affair hints that this will be a low-scoring game – unlike France's meeting with Argentina in the last 16. For more proof, one needs to look no further than their encounter at the 2010 World Cup.

One could be forgiven for forgetting that these two sides met in South Africa as there was nothing memorable from that run-in. The match ended in a drab 0-0 draw with the European giant crashing out in the group stage while their rival made it all the way to the semi-finals.

These two nations met two years later but sadly played out another goalless draw. There was a goal in their 2013 international friendly but that was the only time any one of the two sides scored in their last five clashes.

Since 2002, five encounters have generated four goalless draws and a one-goal win for Uruguay. These two nations have crossed paths seven times in history and the highest-margin victory came in a 1985 Inter Continental Championship tie which France won 2-0.

Their highest-scoring encounter was in the 1966 World Cup, with Uruguay emerging triumphant 2-1.  Fans wish to see a thrilling encounter, and while history suggests otherwise, only time will tell whether Friday's quarter-final will impress or disappoint.
