The Frenchman announced he will be leaving at the end of this season, meaning the board has the difficult job of finding his successor.

With Arsene Wenger officially announcing that this will be his final season as Arsenal manager, the club will be tasked with the difficult job of finding his replacement. While the focus on social media is tributes for the Frenchman, the board’s biggest focus will be securing the ideal successor.

Replacing a man who has dedicated more than 20 years of his career to the team, winning 10 major trophies, will not be easy but the north London outfit is not short on candidates. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: the club hierarchy is split on who should be appointed due to the numerous targets.

According to the Sun, Chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat favor different options. As of now, though, two names being mentioned are Luis Enrique and Patrick Vieira.

Despite his lack of experience, Vieira is an idolized former player from the Invincibles era. He has been in charge of MLS side New York City for only two years but the Frenchman is allegedly a candidate and is said to be the preference of Wenger himself.

Sanllehi, though, has his eyes elsewhere. Having arrived at Arsenal from Barcelona, the head of football relations wants to recruit former Blaugrana boss Luis Enrique for the soon-to-be vacant role. The Spanish tactician is currently on sabbatical since leaving Camp Nou last summer after winning the treble in his first season.

One stumbling block is Enrique’s wage demand. The Asturian boss wants to be paid in excess of $14m, which the club is unwilling to meet.

Mislintat, meanwhile, favors finding a replacement in the Bundesliga. There are a number of exciting managers from Germany, including the unemployed Thomas Tuchel, with Schalke’s Domenico Tedesco and Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann being possible targets.

Allegri is one favored by fans due to his success in Italy, but he is under contract at Juventus until 2020. Brendan Rodgers has also heavily been linked, but he is not a popular choice among the supporters.
