The Three Lions’ official Twitter account confirmed that defender Ryan Bertrand will not feature in any of the impending friendlies to be played. According to the statement, the player has suffered a back injury and has subsequently been withdrawn as a precautionary measure.

Nonetheless, his replacement in the 27-man squad submitted for the games against Holland and Italy is yet to be named. Perhaps to provoke hysteria, fans on social media have been calling out a few names but Brighton’s Lewis Dunk seems to top the list of the preferred first-choice back-up.

The defender recently equaled the record of the most own-goals scored in a Premier League season by netting his fourth while his side was playing against Swansea. Realistic targets for the outgoing Bertrand, however, include Fulham prodigy Ryan Sessegnon and either of Manchester United pair Ashley Young and Luke Shaw.
