If Sunil Gulati thought that his stint as U.S. Soccer's president would continue without any resistance, he was utterly mistaken.
According to reports by SI.com, former Los Angeles Galaxy striker and USMNT all-time goal scoring leader Landon Donovan is considering to run for the U.S. Soccer Federation's presidency.
Donovan left no stone unturned when criticizing the USMNT's failure to qualify to the 2018 World Cup a week ago, and some believe that his status as the best player ever to put on the Stars & Stripes' jersey could make the difference and lead soccer to new heights in the U.S..

According to SI.com, there's concern among some U.S. Soccer execs about Sunil Gulati's involvement in the technical aspect of the game, which includes appointing coaches for the USMNT and the USWNT. If that's the case, some feel that Donovan has all the credentials to take control of the soccer aspects involved in the position.
Current president Sunil Gulati has faced severe pressure after the USMNT failed to qualify, but is yet to announce if he will present a bid to extend his 12-year stay as the U.S. Soccer's main man.
Other potential candidates for the job include former striker Eric Wynalda, Steve Gans and soccer entrepreneur Paul Lapointe.
If Donovan decides to run, he must submit his bid before December 12. The election will take place on February 10, 2018, at the USSF's general meeting.
