 Post subject: Goal TV CANADA!!!
GolTV Canada to launch in October
August 4, 2005
The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has approved an application from Insight Sports Limited to operate "The Soccer Net" as a pay digital "Category 2 Specialty Programming" television service.
Insight Sports has announced that it will use the licence to launch GolTV Canada in October.

....but is this not just mainly Spanish? I would rather have English so if English not also available I don't see myself buying this channel - I think category 2 means paying something.

I'm usually the first to jump for joy when there's news of more footy coverage for us Canadian viewers. However, Goaltv's coverage is absolutely appauling.
The commentary is out of sync, the pictures always blurry and the whole presentation is really ghetto.
I'd rather they use the available resources to make some PPV games available on Digital TV instead. If, indeed that were possible.

I think for it's maximum success, you'll need to bring this product to the latino audience. best would be if you could distribute it though all tv providers, ie, rogers, bell, starchoice, etc.. but that goes without saying

A call to your service providers (ExpressVu, Rogers etc.) to let them know you're keen to buy the channel will help to speed along the process.
Thanks, and stay tuned, and tell your friends

First of all “Thank You” for bringing a real soccer channel to Canada.
Will GOLTV have all its programs broadcast in English?
Your web site mentions that it will have coverage from Spain, Italy and many more, but we do get coverage for Italian league and a little bit of Spanish league (not that great). What I am trying to say is that will GOLTV take away some soccer covered from other regular Canadian sports channel in order to have a better and more coverage?

ChelseaLaurie,
Do you plan on having coverage from any other leagues that Gol TV in the USA does not show?? I think it would be great to see some matches from the Dutch and Scottish leagues as well as the German bundesliga. I know FSWC has the Bundesliga but they do not show the good matches, they have second pick at matches after the German channels and Setanta. So if you could get the rights to the games Setanta show that would be great!
Its great to see that Canada will finally have a dedicated Soccer channel after years of suffering with very little if any soccer coverage we finally have games available on other sports channels but we now also have our own soccer channel!!
Some would say FSWC is a soccer channel, not quite since they show other stuff too and they have gone pretty much downhill since the launched (?), so I think Gol TV Canada has come at just the right time. They had better programming when they launched then they do now, I hope this won't happen to your channel also?!
Finally, I am just curious as to why you decided on a partnership with Gol TV, why not just launch your own soccer channel, this way you could potentially show anything you want not just what Gol TV shows?
Thanks.

yes, an opportunity to introduce Scottish and international matches. Don't know why the negativity about FSWC though. They show a Sunday EPL, midweek EPL, a highlights show, World Cup games etc. and, together with Sportsnet we have fairly exhaustive coverage of EPL, which is for me the main attraction by far. Gol does not attract me for soccer from Ecudor etc. so some EPL/SPL is highly desirable.

I am very excited about hearing about Gol TV coming to Canada. However what I don't understand is will the channel be strickly a pay-per-view channel that you have to pay $10 for every game you want to watch or will it be like FSWC where you pay a few dollars for a monthly subscription? Thank you for your quick responses. bye.

Post subject: to answer some questions....
First of all thanks so much for all the comments!!! WOW!
To answer a few questions that have popped up.....
As far as who will be carrying the channel, a call to your cable or satellite company telling them that you're interested in the channel, and would like more information would speed up the process of getting it on TV.
The leagues that are available to GolTV include Italian, Spanish, Columbianand many more. As far as championships go, the UEFA Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, Brazilian Cup, Copa del Rey, International friendlies and plenty more, and of course soccer shows including significant television exposure to Canadian soccer.
I hope this answers come questions.....but please keep 'em coming!

Hello I was wondering if Gol TV wil be available on all digital cable providers and also if they show champions league and UEFA Cup. Also I hear the channel shows international friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. Does the channel focus on international matches in South America, or Europe or does it show everything including CONCACAF and CAF? The main thing Im wanting to know though is will Cogeco digital cable get Gol TV because that is the cable company I am a customer of. Thank you. Bye

Customer service still doesn't know if they will carry the station. They don't have details yet but I figure if people send e-mails, it will help...

i'm curious as to the price also. Is it a monthly fee or a match by match fee? If it's monthly and can be kept to a nominal fee i'd add it to my cable as i'm always up to watching some soccer. Plus you can only watch the FSW report so many times in a row before it becomes annoying.
Scrap your satalites and go digital cable!

Absolutely - send emails, call, write letters (if anyone even does that anymore) to your cable and satellite providers, and let them know you want the channel!

Much as I love the idea of more soccer on TV, I have to admit that GolTV coming to canada does not fill me with confidence. I watched several games last season which had been picked up by Sportsnet and, quite frankly, the production was appalling. At least is was from an english commentary point of view. The commentators were a perfect cure for insomnia and the picture quality often left much to be desired.
Here's hoping the probs have been addressed and we can look forward to more variety of games to watch.
