The Argentine, who recently signed for Cardiff City, was on an aircraft that went off the radar near the Channel Islands.

Fears over Emiliano Sala is growing by the minute as the Argentine was on board a flight that has gone missing. The attacker got on an aircraft due for Wales but it sadly went off the radar near the Channel Islands.

The 28-year-old recently signed for Premier League outfit Cardiff City and was due in the Welsh capital to meet up with his new employers and team-mates. AFP first reported this worrying incident, writing that sources from the police informed them that the player had gone missing alongside the plane.

It has now been confirmed that Sala was in fact on board that flight. Frederic Solano of France's Directorate General for Civil Aviation told CNN that the former Ligue 1 goalscorer was on the list of passengers.

The Piper Malibu aircraft was carrying two people and no trace has been found yet. Guernsey Police stated that the search for the plane was initiated on Monday but worsening weather conditions forced a postponment. It has also been revealed that the aircraft requested an emergency landing.

Their statement said: "The PA 46 Malibu, a single turbine engine aircraft was on route from Nantes in France, to Cardiff in Wales, with two people on board when it was lost off radar as Jersey ATC was attempting to make contact.

"The aircraft departed Nantes at 1915 for Cardiff. The aircraft was flying at 5000 feet.

"The aircraft on passing Guernsey requested descent. Jersey ATC lost contact whilst it was flying at 2300 feet."

Cardiff has issued a statement regarding their $19.3M signing, with club chairman Mehmet Dalman saying: "We are very concerned by the latest news that a light aircraft lost contact over the Channel last night."

An air and sea search has been launched as many fear for the worst. His former club Nantes was set to travel to Entente Sannois for a Coupe de France clash but that game has now been postponed out of respect.
