Spain’s top-flight football league will be available for free streaming for football fans in some part of Asia via Facebook.

Facebook has reached an agreement with La Liga to broadcast live matches from the league this season for viewers in some part of Asia. The social media giant now takes over from Sony Pictures Network as the exclusive right holder in the region.

The latter reportedly paid $32 million for the right to broadcast La Liga between 2014 and 2018 but did not renew the deal following the end of last season.

Although the financial details of Facebook's new agreement with La Liga remain undisclosed, Spanish sports tabloid Marca reported that the deal, which covers matches to be played in the Spanish league over the next three years, was worth $102 million.

The 2018/2019 season officially commences on Friday, and all the 380 league matches to be played can be streamed live by football fans in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan via Facebook.

The agreement to broadcast La Liga in the aforementioned countries comes after the social media platform secured rights in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to air the English Premier League in a reported deal of almost $255 million.
