This year's edition of Serie A will certainly have a lot more bandwagon fans due to the arrival of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in a mega-money move from Real Madrid last month. Of course, he'll have some stiff competition in terms of the Capocannoniere race, with Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi, Dries Mertens, and Edin Dzeko among those hoping to prevent the five-time Ballon d'Or winner from winning his first top goalscorer prize in Italy in 2019.

For those who have always supported calcio through thick and thin over the years - pre CR7 - and actually know the difference between the Derby della Madonnina and the Derby della Mole, it's set to be another great season as 19 other teams hope to try to end Juventus's reign as champions of Italy. Napoli, who finished as runners-up have none other than legendary coach Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, while AC Milan, Roma, and Inter have also solidified their squads as well.

When does Serie A start?

The 2018/2019 Serie A season will kick off on Saturday, August 18th with a double-header featuring Chievo vs Juventus at 12:00 EST/18:00 CET and Lazio vs Napoli at 14:30 EST/20:30 CET. Both are games not to miss as the first could see Cristiano Ronaldo make his official debut and the second will be Carlo Ancelotti's first competitive game in charge.

Who are the current champions?

Juventus will be the team to beat this season. Of course, having added reigning Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo to their ranks, that will be easier said than done. The Bianconeri did lose Gianluigi Buffon on a free transfer to PSG, but have brought in promising shot-stopper Mattia Perin from Genoa, and in defense, Leonardo Bouncci has returned from AC Milan to mark the return of the famed "BBC" a year after departing.

It's going to be really tough to unseat Juventus as champions of Italy, though. Napoli desperately tried to do it last season, and the Partenopei opted to forgo other chances at winning silverware in the Europa League and the Coppa Italia only to come up short-handed. In fact, the last team other than Juve to win the Scudetto was AC Milan back in 2011 - when current Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri was in charge - so it is really hard to imagine anyone really stopping La Vecchia Signora from making it eighth straight league title next May.
